A Community-Driven Revolution in Waste Management
The Packaging Producer Responsibility Organisation (PAKPRO) has launched the groundbreaking Biz Ya Taka Mtaani Program, a unique initiative aimed at transforming communities by establishing collection hubs for immediate recycling in areas lacking proper waste management systems.
This innovative project is designed not only to reduce environmental waste but also to spark economic opportunities within these communities.
Through Biz Ya Taka Mtaani, PAKPRO envisions a vibrant and sustainable future where recyclable materials are swiftly recovered, creating income-generating prospects for local waste collectors and empowering the youth. This initiative goes beyond mere waste collection—it’s about igniting hope and fostering economic growth.
PAKPRO is committed to providing ongoing training and technical support to the dedicated teams managing these community holding areas. In partnership with local Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), PAKPRO will also drive community awareness campaigns on efficient waste collection and recycling practices. This collaborative effort aims to cultivate clean and safe environments where families can thrive and children can play freely.
Aligned with the National Environment Management Authority’s (NEMA) overarching goals, Biz Ya Taka Mtaani underscores the importance of educating the public on waste collection and recycling regulations. It emphasizes the crucial role each individual plays in protecting our ecosystems. NEMA’s vision for increased recycling spaces is integral to positioning Kenya as a leader in the circular economy within the region.
The program offers young people and CBOs a golden opportunity to achieve financial stability and become beacons of hope in their communities, which have long struggled with the challenges of improperly disposed waste.
Starting in Nairobi County, PAKPRO plans to expand this transformative program to Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, Makueni, Nyeri, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu, lighting the way to a cleaner, greener future for all.
We aim to onboard over 10,000 agents nationwide to ensure compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) while driving socio-economic progress within communities across the country.
